Mr. Speaker, I am having a difficult time trying to understand what the Minister is trying to say here. Is it my understanding that the Minister is saying he is consulting with a number of people and various departments? If that is the case, could I ask him what time frame we would be looking at? He indicated that in 1991-92 the road would be going in, but based on the number of things to go in. So he has currently undertaken that study. But when will I know or when will this House know what time period he is looking at?

Thank you, Mr. Speaker. I have one question in particular for the Minister of Justice. I would like the Minister of Justice to advise this House as to the status of the family law review committee work. Thank you.

The Speaker Michael Ballantyne

Mr. Attorney General.

Dennis Patterson Iqaluit

Thank you, Mr. Speaker. Not "Attorney General" yet; maybe not ever. Mr. Speaker, I have asked for an update on the status of the family law review. Work was interrupted last year on this project, but I am told that officials of my department are working in order to put together a final report with recommendations which will allow me to assess the next step. Once I get that report, I will keep this House informed. Thank you, Mr. Speaker.

The Speaker Michael Ballantyne

Thank you. Mr. Attorney General, by statute of this House you are the Attorney General of the NWT. Oral questions. Mrs. Marie-Jewell.

Jeannie Marie-Jewell Thebacha

Mr. Speaker, I trust that the Attorney General has taken my question under notice.

The Speaker Michael Ballantyne

The question has been taken as notice. Oral questions. Mr. Zoe.

Thank you, Mr. Speaker. I would like to direct my question to the Minister responsible for Municipal and Community Affairs. The department has purchased equipment for the community of Snare Lake. Could the Minister provide to me, verbally or written, information as to how he manages to bring in the equipment to that community?

The Speaker Michael Ballantyne

Minister of Municipal and Community Affairs.

Dennis Patterson Iqaluit

I will have to take that question as notice, Mr. Speaker.

The Speaker Michael Ballantyne

Thank you. The question has been taken as notice. Mr. Lewis.

Thank you, Mr. Speaker. My question is to the Government Leader. A week ago Mr. Morin made a public statement calling for the resignation of a very distinguished federal public servant, Mr. Stephen, who is the director general of DIAND in Yellowknife. It is my understanding of this case that the resignation that was being sought by the Minister was because this public servant had simply done his job as it was set down for him. Is it the policy of this government to allow Ministers to request the resignation of public servants simply because they are doing their job?

The Speaker Michael Ballantyne

I take it that this question is directed to the Government Leader.

Nellie Cournoyea Nunakput

Mr. Speaker, I would have to take that under notice. I did not quite understand the question, because I know when the statement was made, it was made by Mr. Don Morin as an MLA. Now in terms of the direct question, I would like to take that under notice and study the document he refers to and come back and make a more definitive statement. Thank you.

The Speaker Michael Ballantyne

The question is taken as notice. Oral questions. Mr. Zoe.

Thank you, Mr. Speaker. Mr. Speaker, my question will be directed to the honourable Member for Tu Nedhe as Minister of Public Works. Mr. Speaker, the Department of Public Works purchases equipment on behalf of different departments, and my understanding is that the department has already purchased three pieces of heavy equipment. I believe one is a dry-chemical fire truck, one is a front-end loader, and a vehicle. Could I ask the Minister --when the department undertook this initiative, surely they had a plan in place to deliver them to the community. Could I get a copy of that plan as to how they are anticipating to deliver those vehicles to that particular community? Thank you.

The Speaker Michael Ballantyne

Minister of Public Works, Mr. Morin.

Don Morin Tu Nedhe

Thank you, Mr. Speaker. I will give him a copy of that plan.

The Speaker Michael Ballantyne

The question is taken as notice. Oral questions. Mrs. Marie-Jewell.

Jeannie Marie-Jewell Thebacha

Thank you, Mr. Speaker. This question is directed to the Minister of Social Services. Mr. Speaker, last summer Social Services was always in the headlines of every newspaper across the North. At one point in time the current Minister, being an ordinary MLA, was quick to judge and state that if he were the Minister he would ask for a total review of the department. I would like to know his position today. Does he still feel that the Department of Social Services needs a total review? Thank you.

---Applause

The Speaker Michael Ballantyne

Minister of Social Services.

Thank you, Mr. Speaker. I heard the question, and I am not going to take it as notice, but I say that there is a new hand at the helm of Social Services and the decision to review is under advisement, and I think the Member will be pleased with the direction that we are going to be going in.
