Thank you, Mr. Chairman. As I indicated earlier, in my Member's statement, economic development is very crucial, essential and important in small communities across the north. By creating jobs, we are accommodating people in the communities who have social problems as a result of a lack of employment and job opportunities. My question is directed to the Minister of Economic Development. The community development centres of Gjoa Haven and Taloyoak are in the process of getting a plan to try to supply services to the government's department that may be in need of offices. There is one going in Taloyoak. I would like to ask the Minister if he has come up with a plan of potential tenants who may be able to use the community centre office building? Thank you.

The Speaker

Thank you. Minister of Economic Development, Mr. Todd.

Thank you, Madam Speaker. The honourable Member is correct. We are working closely with the community of Taloyoak and Gjoa Haven in the development of potential economic activity in there. The current situation with respect to Taloyoak, we are working with the Minister of Public Works in trying to identify potential government agencies that could go in that building as well as others in the community. We have hired a consultant, Avery and Associates, who has been working in the community -- I think he has been in there twice. I met with him this morning and I am fairly confident in the next 60 to 90 days, hopefully by the end of March, we should be in a position to move forward on this important initiative which is going to be locally owned and controlled.

With respect to Gjoa Haven, I did meet with the assistant deputy mayor, secretary manager and one of the other council members, and we are not quite as far along on this initiative as we are on Taloyoak. But we are moving towards putting together a proposal that would provide some economic benefits and, more importantly, some local ownership into that community as well. I am confident in the next short while we will be able to move forward on a reasonable project in Taloyoak and perhaps Gjoa Haven this year. Thank you.
