Mr. Chairman, the surveillance cost consists of removal costs for bison in the zone, the rental of infrared equipment, weekly flights, bi-weekly snow machine patrols and a bison-free management area survey. Costs are expected to amount to $103,000, Mr. Chairman, for the 1992-93 winter season. The federal government will commit $40,000 of those dollars to the monitoring for the 1992-93 season. That is what it will entail, Mr. Chairman. Thank you.

Thank you, Mr. Chairman. We are doing helicopter surveillance of that area. Contacting a helicopter company will be done by the department. We are asking the hunters and trappers of that area to do snowmobile surveillance. The removal of bison will be done by the department using whatever means appropriate at that time, whether it is helicopter, boats in the summertime, or both, and snowmobiles in the wintertime. Just a comment. This $63,000 buys quite a lot of shells and gas. We should be making a deal with the hunters' and trappers' associations in that group. There are a lot of hunters and trappers in that area. It would be wise for the department to negotiate with the organizations down there to do this surveillance rather than hiring helicopters or whatever winged aircraft you are going to use for surveillance.
