Mr. Speaker, in consulting with various parties who are vitally interested in new and improved mine safety legislation, I have encountered strong opposition to the composition of the committee as I announced it in this Legislature. This opposition, Mr. Speaker, is strong enough and significant enough that it could threaten the effectiveness of the committee and the willingness of all parties to participate in that committee. Mr. Speaker, the reason the committee has not yet been struck is not from want of effort, but it is because I am still trying to resolve the fundamental objections that have been expressed from some quarters about the composition of the committee. Thank you.
