Thank you, Madam Speaker. This issue has been raised several times by the Members of this Legislative Assembly. As a result, a working group formed in 1990 reviewed legislative options and concluded that legislation in absence of treatment programs would be ineffective. The group recommended pilot programs in several communities if funding could be identified. Northern Addiction Services has a pilot project, along with the government of Canada, on solvent abuse as a result of those concerns that have been raised here in this House, as well as in other communities across the north.
