Thank you, Mr. Speaker. Fall is nearly over and the community of Tuktoyaktuk goes out on the land for the annual subsistence hunt and stocks up on fish, geese and caribou. During the business plan meetings in Yellowknife I became aware on Sunday, October 1, 2004, of four local residents who were considered overdue. These four individuals did not report or return home and after a couple of days they were considered missing. Bad weather in and around Tuktoyaktuk delayed the search and rescue efforts. When the weather subsided, an extensive search and rescue effort came into play with the assistance of the Canadian Coast Guard, RCMP, Tuk Canadian Rangers, U.S. Search and Rescue, and many volunteers.
