Thank you, Mr.
Speaker. My
questions today are for the Minister of Justice.
Getting back to my Member’s statement, I talked of equal shared parenting and the need for children involved in custody disputes and family breakup to have access to both parents. In our current scenario with our court system set up the way it is, it’s an adversarial approach to child custody. Obviously, this government spends millions of dollars in the area of legal aid, family law and areas like that.
I’d like to begin by asking the Minister: does the Government of the Northwest Territories have a position on equal shared parenting, and if so, what is it?
