Thank you, Mr. Speaker. I would like to ask the Minister with regard to the interpreter position in Hay River, who is Raymond Sonfrere? Is the Minister telling me now that

the regional director's position is being transferred to Hay River to supervise this individual? Is that what I am hearing?

Mr. Speaker, no, it is not to supervise one individual. It is also to supervise other offices in the communities which I have mentioned.

Mahsi, Mr. Speaker. I have a question for the Minister of Education. Earlier this year the Northwest Territories Native Women's Association in Inuvik applied to take over the old adult education building to be used as a training facility. Can the Minister please let us know the status of this transfer?

Thank you, Mr. Speaker. I recognize the Native Women's Association is a valid program. I have visited the centre myself. Right now the department is investigating the situation with D.P.W. to look at the funding for that association. Although the Education Act has agreed to turn over the old adult education building to Native Women's Association for $1, the facilities would cost about $15,000 to upgrade. As soon as we are able to come up with something to help the Native Women's Association in that regard, I will report to the Member.

Mahsi, Mr. Speaker. Why is this investigation taking so long? They have been investigating for six months, and I do not believe that it takes that long just to look at this building. According to my information, this work was done last spring. Why are we waiting for more investigations?

Mr. Speaker, I think the Member would appreciate that there are a lot of things involved in moving our own Members to new locations. The adult education centre is not in very good shape and it takes two departments to determine how much work needs to be done. What I will do, Mr. Speaker, is try to get something going as quickly as possible because I am also anxious to get that resolved.

Mahsi, Mr. Speaker. I appreciate the Minister's response. You mentioned that you visited the existing facility and it is very overcrowded. Please have your officials talk with each other and get something done. How soon do you expect this asset to be turned over?

Thank you, Mr. Speaker. I will be requesting the Minister of Public Works to meet with me and see if we can speed this up. I cannot tell you exactly when. That centre, like any other small community, is having an upgrading program for the low level grades and has helped many of these women tremendously. I think it deserves attention as quickly as possible and I will be asking the Minister about it as quickly as possible.
