I have a question for the Government Leader. It is in regard to a written question posed on February 27th requesting the cost for the chairpersons of boards, agencies and committees. In discussing the issue with the Government Leader, I indicated that we were looking for the amount paid to chairpersons for agencies and boards, not particularly the local committees. Will the Government Leader commit to advising this House the cost that is paid to chairpersons of these agencies, boards and committees prior to the conclusion of the session?

Mr. Speaker, I appreciate that the honourable Member has clarified for me the extent of the information that was required. When the question was first posed, we had attempted to gather the information of all boards and agencies, regional and such, and it was taking longer than we anticipated. So, yes, I will provide that information to the extent the Member is requesting.

New question posed to the Government Leader. Today our question period was taken up to find out the status of reports on many questions that we posed through six weeks of this session. Members have been concerned on this side of the House in respect to the time frame of some of the questions posed, Taking into consideration the amount of outstanding questions that still have to be dealt with by the government, I would like to ask the Government Leader if she will request her Ministers to ensure in future that oral questions taken under notice are given top priority in responding to Members of this House. Thank you.

Mr. Speaker, I would like to assure the Member that this is the case. Sometimes it is difficult to get the information; however, we will readdress the situation to see how the response time can be narrowed. I would like to also thank Members for conducting and summarizing the questions. Earlier this week, we sat down as a cabinet to discuss how we can respond, and to gather together the list of outstanding questions. I would like to thank Members for doing that work for us. Subsequently, we will attempt to respond in a much more timely fashion. Thank you.

Hon. Nellie Cournoyea's return to Question W30-12(2), asked by Mr. Nerysoo on March 25, 1992: The option of bringing the petroleum products division under the NWT Power Corporation is still being investigated. There have been preliminary discussions between corporation and GNWT staff, but no decision has been made to amalgamate the two operations. Consequently, the Power Corporation has not been instructed to restructure its administration.

The Department of Government Services does not pay GST on the construction of its facilities or on the purchase of POL products. The impact of an amalgamation on GST payments will not be determined until some of the broader issues are resolved.

I will be reviewing this matter with the Reshaping Northern Government working group in the next few weeks and will be reporting back to the Assembly during the June sifting.
