I wouldn't want to be misunderstood. Mr. Antoine has spoken on many occasions and I've listened to his counsel many times about the importance of listening to the chiefs and to the leadership within the Dene communities. It's certainly not my intent to circumvent that process. It's obviously a serious issue with his area. However, I would like an opportunity, if I may, to try to reassure him tonight that it's not our intent to erode any authority of the traditional leadership in the area. If you'll allow me, I think what I'll do is ask Mr. Vanderhaden, who's far more familiar with the history of this bill than I am, to try to reassure Mr. Antoine as to what we're about here.
