The Minister responded by saying she will provide that in the regular sitting of the House. I said, we are in regular sitting of the House. We are in committee of the whole. That is part of the proceedings of the House. It is not within the formal proceedings, but we are still within the House. Why can she not table it in committee of the whole?

Mr. Chairman, I am having a difficult time with the rationale of why the Minister cannot provide this central listing of these research projects. Why can the Minister not table them now? I do not see the big deal. I understand she is going to do it in the formal sitting, but why does it have to be in the formal sitting? Why can we not do it before we get into her line by line departmental estimates? If it is available, why can she not table it?

Mr. Chairman, I am not finished with my general comments. I am going to be making a motion as soon as I conclude my general comments before we get into the budget of the Department of Health. The report of our Standing Committee on Public Accounts also recommended that the department should prepare a set of policies which deals with the design, approval and review processes, ethical standards, consultation requirements, expectations for local involvement in research and requirements for the distribution of the final research report. Will the Minister ensure that her officials working on this project consult with representatives from the health and hospital boards and with aboriginal organizations on all aspects of this new policy?

Thank you, Mr. Chairman. The requests being made by the Member are also the recommendations of the Standing Committee on Public Accounts. As I said earlier on, I have not had the decent chance to sit down with my departmental officials to give them advice and direction, which is one of the reasons why I have been reluctant in answering some of the questions the Member is raising now. We will have to sit down and review the recommendations that have been made by the Standing Committee on Public Accounts or any other committee. There are more than 43 recommendations. I am not being indecisive or anything like that, Mr. Chairman. It is just that I would like to have some time to sit down with my departmental officials and review them so the responses can be made in a more informative and well thought out manner than what the Member is asking now. Thank you.

Thank you, Mr. Chairman. The review which is being conducted in Fort Simpson is going through a multi-stage process which involves community consultation. There have already been several occasions in which materials have been presented to and discussed with the community. It is my understanding that he is now awaiting further response from the community on documents which have already been presented, discussed and amended.
