Kelvin Ng, Minister of Health and Social Services has stated that his department will not give core funding to the Tl'oondih Healing Society but, ironically, funds other similar programs up to $1 million a year. Furthermore, future funding for other facilities in Mackenzie Delta such as the Knute Lang Learning and Development Correction Centre that was promised to Aklavik and other similar communities were recently cancelled. This
again, sheds some light on the government's commitment to First Nation's government in recognition of trying to resolve aboriginal problems between especially in relations to corrections and alcohol and drugs. The annual loss to the economy will be 11 billion dollars by the year 2000. 16 at the current trend of overlooking depreciated social conditions of First Nations people in Canada. We will have to let the politicians, Government of Canada, other political organizations to realize this problem has to be resolved today. For what we do today will save money in the future.
