Mr. Speaker, it has been our view that the principal role that we play in many of these cases is to ensure that as much as possible the primary interest of the aboriginal groups should be advanced as much as possible. The interest of industry and the interest of environmental groups, for instance, are legitimate interests, but the fundamental rights and the fundamental interest of the people, in this case the aboriginal people, has always been the foremost interest of this government in making sure that they are provided for as much as possible. It is not an either or position, but we have always taken the position in the negotiations to support as much as possible the position of the aboriginal groups without causing the interests of for instance third party interest to be compromised.
