Mr. Speaker, I would like to announce that as of Wednesday, March 1, 2000, the maximum speed limit for trucks on the unreconstructed portion of Highway No. 3 between the Stagg River and Yellowknife will be reduced from its present 90 kilometres per hour to 70 kilometres per hour.

I believe that, in view of the condition of this section of highway and the increased volume of traffic travelling on it, a lower speed limit for trucks will reduce the wear and tear on the road and give motorists a greater sense of confidence that they can travel the highway safely.
