Sometimes the cost savings initiative decisions that are made, if they are made in isolation, the ripple effect in the bigger scheme of things does not turn out to be a savings at all. I believe the projected savings of approximately $3 million a year could very quickly evaporate if some of the bigger picture issues are not addressed.
Mr. Chairman, presently this government and most of the communities in the Keewatin use the rail head and barging facilities in Churchill to stage goods that they buy in Winnipeg. Has this government taken into account the impact if NTCL suffers a drop in revenue and market derived in the Keewatin operation to the extent that they would be forced to withdraw their services to this region?
