Thank you, Mr. Chairman. The Minister touched on something about retention and recruitment, that work has been piled up on individuals, so is this going to hire new staff? My concern, for example in retention and recruitment, Mr. Chairman, is that that portion of the budget has grown substantially over the years when it first was created to ease the burden we are finding ourselves in when it came to the nursing shortage which we have not managed to ease, but that budget and the personnel in that section has bloomed like in a very well watered situation. Maybe the Minister can be a little more clear on that, as to what he intends to do with $195,000 in that system-wide management section. He has run off quite a few things that seem to be touched on in this area, but if we spread that out then it just sounds like we are topping up the department so it has a little more money to maneuver. Will we see something come out of this and see services actually improved to individuals? Thank you.

Thank you, Mr. Chairman. Mr. Chairman, we are working on a whole range of issues tied into the day-to-day operations of Health and Social Services as well as to the action plan. There is no intention to add more staff in headquarters. Of that I can assure my colleague from Boot Lake, and the whole issue of recruitment and retention is one that we are looking at very carefully. We have the recruitment and retention draft that is with the social programs that has just been returned to us from the Social Programs Committee which we want to get ready to take to Cabinet.

We are working on a whole host of issues, things like the core services document. We are trying to come up with a self-care handbook for the Northwest Territories and it has a cost attached to it. We are trying to work on an on-call centre for the Northwest Territories that would be 24 hours a day. The MLAs have come down with us to look at the Capital Health Authority. We are trying to come up with ways to make sure that we have an accountability framework, that we get a way to get an evaluation of customer satisfaction.

We are trying to do work on a delivery model for Health and Social Services that makes sense across the North which is very time consuming. We are working on other basic things like coordinated discharge and planning so that we can avoid a lot of issues that have been raised in this House in terms of glitches that happen when people travel for medical and other appointments. Thank you, Mr. Chairman.
