Mr. Chairman, I will get that level of detail but I would like to point out that there is a wide range of foster care rates and there is also recognition that for foster care rates, the costs are higher the further north you go. That would be one of the factors that would be laid out, but I will get that information for the Member. Thank you.

The Minister also mentioned in regard to increasing the number of children who are receiving service but there also have been major price increases in the different areas. I would like to ask the Minister, do you have a breakdown of the price increases to see why there has been such a drastic increase in the amount of forced growth in this area?

Thank you, Mr. Chairman. At present the foster care rates range anywhere from $20 a day up to $120 with extra costs such as tuition and other special needs items over and above that. As I indicated, Mr. Chairman, we will get the full breakdown of information for the member.

Mr. Chairman, I think this is something that we have to look at because it seems like we have developed an economic opportunity by way of paying people to take care of other people's children. I would like to ask the Minister if we can get a breakdown in regard to those amounts and also exactly...what is the highest cost associated with foster care, and what are the amounts being paid to different foster parents? How much is being paid out over a year for someone to take care of a child who may be with them for several years?

Mr. Chairman, this is an ongoing issue that we monitor and we are trying to take the steps necessary to keep children in their communities with their families or extended families as a first choice.
