Thank you, Mr. Speaker. Mr. Speaker, the total amount that we pass on to the South Slave District Education Council is slightly over $15 million. It is the responsibility of the council to allocate the funding that is provided to the communities and, of course, the council has a representative on the board from each community.

I do not know what the breakdown of that figure is, Mr. Speaker, and that is something I would have to obtain from the council to pass on to Mr. Nitah.

Thank you, Mr. Speaker. I would sure appreciate that information from the Minister. Of that $15 million, I imagine that is for the whole education system in the South Slave area. Of that $15 million, how much of it goes to the communities of Lutselk'e and Fort Resolution? Is it based on population? Number of students? What is the case, Mr. Speaker? Thank you.

Thank you, Mr. Speaker. The department has a policy of allocation by formula. It is a funding formula. The council would take that formula to allocate the funding for each of the communities. Thank you.

Thank you, Mr. Speaker. In light of recent developments of communities wishing to break away from the South Slave Education Council, I feel it is important to know exactly what the budget is and the formula. Can the Minister provide me with that formula also? Thank you very much.

Yes, we can provide the Member with that. Just in general terms, it is based according to student enrolments, minimum administration requirements. There is an adjustment for the cost differentials for each region.

For example, it may be more expensive in communities off-road versus road. Those are the types of criteria, Mr. Speaker. We will get the formula for the Member.

Thank you, Mr. Speaker. The $15 million budget, is that just for curriculum use or can part of that budget be used for renovations and upgrades to the facilities used by the students? Thank you, Mr. Speaker.

Thank you, Mr. Speaker. The funding is used for the delivery of education programs in each of the schools. Structural changes and so forth, renovations, are all done through the capital projects, so that money would not be included in that $15 million.

Thank you, Mr. Speaker. Mr. Speaker, my question is to the Minister of Finance. It is in regard to restricted employees under section 34(2) of the Public Service Act. Has the Minister received any requests from people for an exemption to the section regarding serving in any political activity? Has he received any requests from the people within the government of the Northwest Territories workforce to get an exemption to allow them to take part in an election?

Mr. Speaker, it is normal practice to send out a notice. I do not know the exact date of when it would have been given. Thank you.
